Krugerrand
The Krugerrand is a bullion coin and a current coin minted in gold, and since 2017 also in silver or platinum. In German-speaking countries, the spelling "Krügerrand" and the corresponding pronunciation are common.
The fineness of these coins, minted since 1967 and generally considered the first modern gold bullion coins, is 916.7/1000, and the fine weight, depending on the denomination, is 50, 5, 2, 1, 1/2, 1/4 , 1/10 , 1/20 , or 1/50 troy ounces. In fact, a Krugerrand coin always weighs more than its fine weight—the higher roughness is due to the alloy containing a portion of copper to increase scratch resistance, which is the reason for the coin's reddish-gold hue.
