WalkIng Liberty

The Walking Liberty Half Dollar is a US silver coin at half a dollar or 50 cents, minted from 1916 to 1947. The coin, designed by Adolph Alexander Weinmann, is named after its motif, the walking goddess of freedom, Lady Liberty.

The obverse of the coin shows the American goddess of freedom "Lady Liberty" striding to the left, wrapped in a long robe. She wears a Phrygian coin and is surrounded by the American flag. In her left hand she holds an oak and an olive branch, while her right arm is stretched out forward. In the background a mountain with the rising sun can be seen. At the top there is the inscription "LIBERTY" (English: freedom) and below the year of issue. The motto " IN GOD WE TRUST" and until 1917 also the mint mark are positioned on the right, a D for Denver and an S for San Francisco. If there is no mintmark, the coin was minted in Philadelphia.
