Bald Eagle / Backside / Walking Liberty
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was minted from 1916-1947 with a consistent motif. It was named after the American goddess of freedom "Lady Liberty", who walks towards the rising sun. The female Liberty wears a long robe and a phrygian cap. The American flag hangs over her shoulders. In her left hand she holds a laurel and oak branch, while her right arm is stretched out forward.
The bald eagle, the American heraldic animal, is depicted on the back. The stylistic eagle gives the impression that at any moment it is about to take off and fly away from the rocky outcrop from which a mountain pine sprouts. In the upper half of the coin is the country name "United States of America", below the " denomination " Half Dollar" and on the left above the pine branch another motto "E Pluribus Unum" (lat.: "out of many one"). Weinman's initials are inconspicuously visible with "W" at the right end of the rock.
